Santa came to Town!
Newbury Lions had a busy time in the lead up to Christmas.
We raised over £400 on our Christmas stall in Newbury Market selling christmas gifts crafted by Lions or supporters and with the support of the fabulous Good Exchange who match funded us, we ended up with over £800
We were able to to take Santa around the towns of Thatcham and Newbury and also support events in Bishops Green and Burghfield.
This was magical as so many children came to the bottom of the gardens or onto the pavement with mum and dad and waved and shouted to Santa. Seeing their faces was a beautiful early Christmas present for the fantastic volunteers who gave their time to support the 6 days in Thatcham and Newbury and the two events further afield.
Sadly we could not shake the bucket or allow children to get too close to the sleigh, but it was a very worthwhile activity, as people seeing Santa or buying gifts, were kind enough to donate on the stall or on line, which helped support our project to get vouchers out to those in our community who needed a bit of extra help over Christmas. We were able to give these vouchers to over 80 families in West Berkshire.
On our Christmas Facebook page we ran a competition for children either colouring in a picture of Santa or drawing pictures of Santa and Roary together. We had some great entries and ended up with 4 winners. Well done to all who took part it was really hard choosing the winners!
